All samples included in the Animal Tissue Bank of Catalunya are identified and joined with an individual index card with a complete data registry. The data registration of each sample is essential for the correct operation of the bank and for the achievement of posterior research projects. This information is composed of six sections:

 1. Animal data. This section includes specie, race, age, sex, identification number, origin and environment of the origin (exploration data, production conditions, feeding, etc), past history and other interesting information (ancestors, offspring, etc).

 2. Clinic information about the neurological process (in the case of pathology).

 3. Information about the pre-morten clinic situation and about the agonizing state. Is very important to know if the agonizing state has been associated to a hepatic, respiratory or renal severe insufficiency, hipoxia, sepsis... It must be registered the medication of the animal during the two previous months as well as the response to the treatment. This section must contain the clinical diagnosis, the date of the illness origin, the clinical evolution of the process, the complementary tests done and the pharmacological treatment.

 4. Data about the cause of the death, date and hour, conditions of conservation of the cadaver and the elapsed time between the death and the necropsy.

5. Data about the type of tissue, its processing and its conservation method.

 6. Post-mortem neuropathological diagnosis (in case of pathology). . The BTAC team of pathologists carries out the corresponding pathological study and append the diagnosis. Is essential indicate if the tissue is presumably infected with contagious agents.

In some cases, when consider opportune, photographic images are taken of the different organs in order to attach them to the corresponding archive. The same way, can be included in the archive illustrative histological images of the conservation state of the material or important from the point of view of neuropathological diagnosis.
The data of each case are collected and integrated in a database specially designed that works as our internal data register. The BTAC does not guarantee the availability of all data mentioned previously.

The available material archive (open to be consulted through internet in this web page) collects the most outstanding information included in our internal data register. The interested researchers must consult this archive in order to be able to demand tissue. After the positive evaluation of the request, we will supply additional information about the material available in our data register. The bank will be able to limit the information about the origin and source of some samples due to confidentiality reasons.
